ADC Quality Report Card
Nephrology & Hypertension Center
Preventing Stroke, Heart and Kidney Diseases through Controlling Blood Pressure

Why It’s Important:

High blood pressure or hypertension is a common medical condition affecting 1 in 4 Americans. Patients with hypertension are at increased risk for stroke, heart disease, and kidney disease.

How does Nephrology at The Austin Diagnostic Clinic measure up:

It is recommended that persons with hypertension age 18-85 year to have their blood pressure under 140/90. Treatment of hypertension is associated with a 35 to 40 percent reduction in stroke incidence, 20 to 25 percent reduction in heart attack and a more than 50 percent reduction in heart failure.

The providers at the nephrology section at Austin Diagnostic Clinic understand the importance of controlling the blood pressure among patients with hypertension. In second quarter 2008, 66 percent of patients with hypertension seen at the nephrology clinic had controlled blood pressure. This is above the national average of 59.7 percent.

What You Can Do:

If you think you have high blood pressure and you are age 18 or older, schedule an appointment with a Nephrology provider at The Austin Diagnostic Clinic.
