The Austin Diagnostic Clinic: Let Our Family Care for Your Family

The Austin Diagnostic Clinic
A Brief History

A History of Healthcare Firsts

Dr. Henry Renfert, the Clinic's original founder, moved to Austin in 1952 after completing his residency in internal medicine at the University of Michigan.  His dream was to build a "junior-size" Mayo Clinic in the Austin area.  Slowly and judiciously he began adding partners to the practice.  Until the 1980s internal medicine and its subspecialties were the mainstay of the Clinic.

ADC was the first clinic in Austin to have available in-house diagnostic radiology and a clinical laboratory.  We were the first to offer nuclear scanning, out-patient stress testing, echocardiography, and 24-hour cardiac monitoring.  In addition, ADC physicians staffed the first intensive care unit and performed the first heart catheterization in Central Texas.  Austin’s first specialty-trained invasive cardiologist, nephrologist, endocrinologist, rheumatologist and pulmonary disease specialists were also ADC doctors.
