What is an Audiologist?

An Audiologist specializes in the study of hearing and balance disorders.  This includes the entire hearing mechanism from the outer ear, middle ear bones, cochlea to central auditory processing problems.
An Audiologist holds at least a masters degree from a nationally accredited university.   ADC audiologists are licensed to practice in Texas and hold a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology or are a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
People are referred to an audiologist for diagnostic testing of the auditory system (hearing), the vestibular system ( balance mechanism), and/or rehabilitation of a hearing loss.  The reason for these visits may include difficulty hearing, ear pain, ear infection, ringing in the ears, balance problems, speech delays or screening hearing of newborns at risk for hearing loss.

Providers:

Penny Barron, M.A.-C.C.C.A.

Your First Audiology Visit

New patients receive an audiological evaluation to determine the status of their middle ear system and to diagnose any potential hearing loss.  If there is a hearing loss, another test will determine what part of the hearing mechanism is responsible for the loss.  Unless other arrangements have been made, payment for services is requested at time of visit.  Many audiology services are covered by insurance.  There is no paperwork to fill out prior to your visit.
